“With the paper chart, you have to flip back and forth to look for old lab results, old notes, old x-rays. All of that is a bit time-consuming ... Electronic health records will save you time in the long run ... you’ll do a lot more in the designated time you have to see patients.”

Microsoft Amalga to Catalyze TeamPraxis' Physician Information Network

We are excited to announce that we will be deploying the Microsoft Amalga software platform to catalyze our existing physician information network, in order to create a secure open network for healthcare information sharing across the state!  We will be calling this initiative, “Community.”  Once complete, our network will provide Hawaii’s independent physicians with the same cutting-edge technology used by large hospital systems across the country.

Realizing our Founding Vision of a Physician Information Network

The Microsoft Amalga application will bring to reality our founding vision of building an integrated physician information network to connect physicians across the state, (especially in underserved areas).  We have always believed that independent physicians are key players in our healthcare delivery system, and so we have meticulously built our network from the ground up over the past twenty years, physician by physician.

The Microsoft Amalga technology will now take our network to the next level by enabling physicians to securely share patient data with each other, providing tremendous benefits in the coordination of patient care, as well as laying the groundwork for secure physician-to-patient communication.  Additionally, our network will be able to more easily integrate with hospitals, other ancillary service providers (i.e., labs, radiology, etc), and emerging health information exchanges.  We will also be able to integrate our Clinical Quality Solution across our network, thereby providing clinical decision support to help physicians be better equipped for emerging pay-for-quality initiatives locally and nationally.

Continuing to Empower Independent Physicians in the Fast-Changing Healthcare Climate

As we see the dynamics of healthcare shifting toward an intelligent, interconnected community – whether a patient-centered medical home, an accountable care organization, or future models – technology like Microsoft Amalga will be vital to helping ensure the ongoing success of independent physicians across the state.  It will soon be imperative for all physicians to have systems that facilitate coordination of care and patient engagement, to provide a care team with a full view of the patient.  We continue to believe that independent physicians are key players in our healthcare delivery system, and we will continue to provide the technology they need to practice the highest possible quality of care and get paid for it.
