TeamPraxis Reaches Significant Milestone
100+ Physicians Onboard with Electronic Health Records

Recognizing that technology has the power to transform the way they practice medicine, more than 100 Hawaii physicians have joined with TeamPraxis to implement the use of Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems in their practices.

The EHR system enables physicians to maintain a patient’s entire record electronically, allowing doctors to access the information they need for a patient’s care at the touch of a button. This comprehensive, individualized database generally includes a patient’s demographics, progress notes, problems, medications, vital sign, laboratory test results and medical history.

Late last year, HMSA committed $20 million to assist independent physicians in acquiring EHR systems, partnering with TeamPraxis to bring 100 physicians on line by the end of 2007. Physicians have responded so well to this new technology, that TeamPraxis has already signed up more than 100 independent physicians.

“The power of the EHR system to both improve the quality of patient care and reduce the cost of healthcare is tremendous,” says TeamPraxis President and CEO Creighton Arita. “Effective use of this technology means patients get better care because physicians can focus their efforts. And, along with improving the quality of care, come cost savings associated with using technology to make business practices more efficient and effective.”

In the spirit of innovation, TeamPraxis continues to invest strongly in research and development to keep pace with EHR trends and advances and help each physician improve the quality of patient care. The Company is now also actively involved in the Physician Quality Reporting Initiative, an innovative Medicare initiative to improve healthcare outcomes through the use of technology, data collection and reporting.

In announcing the HMSA Initiative for Innovation and Quality HMSA President and CEO Robert P. Hiam said, “Electronic medical records will dramatically enhance patient care, reduce errors, minimize duplication, and provide true efficiencies in the delivery of care.”

Hear what the doctors have to say

“Patient documentation is more complete with EHR. I know my patients far better than I’ve ever known them. Electronic medical records have allowed us to be much more thorough in our documentation. We are more effective communicators with everyone who is involved in patient care. This enables us to be more comprehensive in what we do for our patients.”
- Dr. Carla Nip-Sakamoto, Dermatology

“EHR has brought about a full paradigm shift to the way we practice. There are not many things in a practicing physician’s career that can influence the way your day goes and the way you practice medicine like an EHR.”
- Dr. Scott Miscovich, Family Medicine
